“Quench”源自古英语 cwencan,本义与“熄灭、使消退”相关,最早多用于“熄火、灭光”。后来语义扩展到“使(渴、欲望、情绪等)消退”,因此既能搭配 thirst(口渴),也能搭配 flames(火焰)或 desire(欲望)。
